Why hello there, back again I see? Welcome back :)
We're counting down the top 10 best horror sequels and remakes of the past 10 years.
So before we get into it:
1 - The following list comprises of the best horror sequels and remakes of the past 10 years. This isn't a list of ALL the best films over that period but the best remake or sequel for each year from 2007 till 2016
2 - The list comprises of films that I feel I could watch multiple times, not necessarily the films with great reviews or well made, just some of my faves from each year.
3 - The following is MY opinion and my opinion alone.
With that out of the way let's get the ball rolling ...
2007

Halloween - Rob Zombie
I know a lot of people don't like this remake and it's very divided amongst horror fans but I did like it, I thought it was refreshing for a halloween movie and something a little different.
I'm also a fan of most Rob Zombie films so i'm glad this was one I could enjoy and still do 10 years later.
Haven't seen it? Go give it a shot and let me know what you think
2008

Shutter - Masayuki Ochiai
By no means is this better than the original 2004 Thai film but it is a good movie no matter what anyone else says. I really enjoy watching this flick and always have done.
I feel this was a good stand alone film and you don't need to watch the original top enjoy this one. Although if you haven't seen the original I do recommend it as it also a very good film, provided you don'r mind subtitles.
2009

REC 2 - Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza
Although not as action packed or scary as the original, REC 2 was still a decent sequel and just as enjoyable to watch.
It is one to watch alone or with friends in the dark while passing that popcorn around (don't forget that surround sound), but be warned shaky cameras and explosive gore are up ahead....you've been warned
2010

Let Me In - Matt Reeves
Let Me In is the remake of the Swedish film Let The Right One In and they did a beautiful job.
Let Me in stays similar to the original but adding a few changes here and there to make it stand out on its own. They don't completely change it so it's nothing like the original and they don't add more to the film that's not needed like a lot of other American remakes tend to do.
Let Me In is by far one of my all time fave remakes and it's definitely one to check out if you haven't, that also goes for the original Let The Right One In, both excellent films.
2011

The Thing - Matthijs van Heijningen Jr
The Thing remake is one that's gotten mixed reviews amongst critics and to be honest i've never really understood why.
Sure it has it's differences to the original and it's not really scary as such but i feel it was a great stand alone film and one where the CGI actually works.
Have you seen it? If so what did you think of it?
2012

Maniac - Franck Khalfoun
Now if there is one film on this list i could rave about, it would be this one.
This remake did such an excellent job of staying true to the original and still being just as creepy. Maniac really shined a light on Elijah Wood and showed he is more than just little hobbit we came to love from the Lord Of The Rings.
Elijah did an excellent job of not trying to be a carbon copy of Joe Spinell, who played the lead in the original, but adding his own brand of creepiness and making the roll entirely his own.
I love this film and if there's one film you should see above the rest on this list, MANIAC would be it.
2013

Curse Of Chucky - Don Mancini
Curse Of Chucky is the sixth instalment in the ' Childs Play' series and I won't lie, being a fan of the originals and having 10 years between this one and the one before it (and let's be honest here, 'Seed Of Chucky' wasn't exactly the shining gem of the series) I had my doubts of whether they'd be able to pull it off, and to my surprise they did!
Curse Of Chucky, unlike some of the sequels before it, focuses on the more "scary" aspect of the film series, much like the original and a lot less of the comedic attributes that its prequels focused on.
I felt Curse Of Chucky was a great addition to the 'Childs Play' series
2014

The Purge: Anarchy - James DeMonaco
The Purge: Anarchy was a great successor to the first in the series 'The Purge'. It has the same sort of brutality and interesting character stories to keep you hanging on till the end as the original and yet still has the ability to stand on it's own.
It's easy to see how this could have been a boring repeat of the original but I feel James DeMonaco did a good job of avoiding that and made a great film to continue 'The Purge' legacy.
2015

Insidious: Chapter 3 - Leigh Whannell
2015 was the year for bad remakes and sequels, with the Poltergeist and Sinister 2 being amongst the list it was hard to pick one for this year.
I've chosen Insidious: chapter 3 purely because out of the Insidious series, it's the one film I was able to watch from start to end without falling asleep. I thought it was a very small breath of fresh air for the series and one I could watch again if I had too.
2016

Ouija: Origin Of Evil - Mike Flanagan
Despite what anyone else says, 2016 was another year for terrible horror, so it was very hard for me to choose a decent sequel or remake as there are plenty i could choose from for the 'worst' of this list.
Ouija is by no means a piece of masterpiece for cinema but it is the better of the films to choose form. Some people have enjoyed it, some people hated it, for what ever reason it got a lot of great reviews online, but to be honest it's rare I actually agree with online reviewers these days, so with all the great reviews I should have known I wasn't going to enjoy it as much as the others, especially since the first Ouija film was TERRIBLE.
Well guys here we are again at the end of another countdown, what did you think? Agree? Disagree? Let me know!
